Base Camp
Ballarat Base Camp
This walk will be of an Easy-Medium standard and will be in locations close to Ballarat. Woowookarung Regional Park will be one location. I suggested you book accommodation for Friday and Saturday nights, but you are welcome to treat either day's walk as a simple day walk withoiut staying overnight.
Bendigo Base Camp
Easy-medium grade walks: Bendigo area on Saturday, and Mt Alexander circuit on way home on Sunday. Optional dinner on Saturday night at local pub. Walk either or both days.
Portland Three Capes Walk
Travel to Portland on Sunday the 26th of March for four days of walking a section of the Great South West Walk around Capes Bridgewater, Nelson and Grant; then return on Friday - or stay longer. Distances will be 14 kms,15 kms, 13 kms and 15 kms respectively which will include walking tracks and along the beach at low tide. Visiting the Blow Holes, Petrified Forrest, Seal Colony, the lighthouse, the Pinnacles and Enchanted Forest; there will be several steep hills and undulations. Details are attached, and book your own accommodation.
Grampians Peaks Trail Stage 2
Continuing along the GPT with some steady climbs requiring good fitness level. Up to 17km per day.
Not suitable for novice walkers. Staying at Halls Gap. Suggest you book Sunday to Thursday nights.
Ararat Base Camp
Easy-medium grade walks 12-15km, largely in historic goldfields near Ararat.
Suggested accommodation at Acacia Caravan Park, Acacia Ave, Ararat. Website https://acaciatouristpark.com/ for details. Suggest booking in Monday 5th , check out Friday 9th (4 nights). Walks on Tuesday to Friday.
Mornington Peninsula base camp
A base camp involving two day walks and two restaurant nights. Please book your own accommodation on the eastern side of the peninsula and book in for the restaurant nights too, if you wish to come.
Saturday we will meet at Coolart Homestead car park, Lord Somers Road, Somers, (Melways Map 193 H9) at 10.00am. We will undertake a 13km E/M walk around the Coolart Wetlands and along the beach to Merricks and return. Option for those who would like a shorter walk to do so.
Sunday we will meet at 9.30am at the Red Hills Recreation Reserve car park, Red Hill (Melways Map 190 J4) to undertake a 15km E/M circuit walk around the Red Hill district.
Please bring boots, lunches, snacks, water and wet weather gear each day.
Grampians Peaks Trail Stage 3
This is the third club trip to The Grampians for the Grampians Peaks Trail (GPT) walk. For this stage we will sometimes break into two groups, Group A to tackle the more challenging official GPT route, led by Greg Passlow, and Group B to do an easier walk, led by Bill Casey.

Mon Oct 9 - Groups A & B - Halls Gap to Rosea Car Park - 11km - Easy-Medium
Tue Oct 10 - Group A - Redman Road to Mt William Car Park - 14km - Medium-Hard
Group B - Sheep Hills Track from Grampians Road to Mt William Car Park and return- 12.2km - Easy-Medium
Wed Oct 11 - Group A - Mt William Car Park to Jimmy Creek - 20km - Medium-Hard
Group B - Teddy Bear Gap Circuit - 7.4km - Easy-Medium AND Mafeking Goldfield Circuit- 2km Easy AND Heritage Tramway/Saw Mill/Buildings Search - up to 8km - Easy Medium
Thu Oct 12 - Groups A & B - Jimmy Creek to Yarram Gap Road - 11km - Medium
Walkers are free to change between the groups on any day if they wish.
To assist with planning I'd appreciate knowing which of the two groups is likely to be your choice on days 2 and 3.

Walhalla Base Camp

Arrive Tuesday and Depart Friday. Staying in Walhalla accommodation or Rawson
Walhalla is a picturesque village, located north of Moe and Traralgon. Nestled in a steep sided valley at the southern edge of the Victorian Alps, the town is surrounded by a national park, lush forests and fern gullies. Walhalla is a historic gold mining town where in the 1860s onward the Long Tunnel mine produced 13.7 tonnes of gold. For more info see: https://www.travelvictoria.com.au/walhalla/
Tuesday: We are meeting at 11:30am at the picnic ground where we'll have lunch, and then do a walking tour around town, including the famous cricket ground and the cemetery, and it's possible to do a tour of the richest gold mine in Victoria if you wish.
Wednesday: Dinner tonight at the old pub where there's great food.
Thursday:
Friday: return home.
