Short Walk (NQE)
Long Forest Walks
This will comprise two walks in the Long Forest Conservation Reserve between Melton and Bacchus Marsh. Although the walks are releatively short at about 3.5km the reserve is on a ridge and the track descends to either the Pyrites Creek or Djerriwarrh Creek quite steeply at times. The tracks are mostly flat and easy going but the sections going down can be loose gravel so poles would be advisable. However this is probably the best time to go on these walks as the wattles will be in bloom and they comprise most of the undergrowth. It is also a great bird watching area although probably not with a group walking through the area. As the two walks are less than 10km this will be a non qualifying walk but ideal for an early finish as it is club night.
Poyntons to Valley Lake
Walk along Steeles Creek and return. Walkers can choose to have lunch at the Peregrines Social Club (also known as Perry's cafe) See link Peregrine Social Club (perrys.club) that overlooks the Valley lake or BYO.
Woodlands Wander.
This walk involves an easy circuit around Woodlands Historic Park, keeping off the usual walking tracks where possible. The off track walking is easy and mainly on grassland. There will be plenty of river red gums to see, a part of Moonee Ponds Creek and a walk ACROSS "The Billabongs" (providing it hasn't rained during the week prior to the walk!).
The perimeter of the Back Paddock ( Bandicoot Enclosure) has been altered, and the new fencing will be seen near the beginning of the walk. There should be plenty of kangaroos monitoring our progress, and Pattersons Curse will have started to appear.
Toilets are available at the start and finish of the walk, and the walk passes close to the Somerton Road Picnic Area, where toilets are available.
Refreshments will be available at the Homestead after the walk.
This is a NQE event, but visitors are welcome.
Westbreen creek and Pub lunch
Westbreen Creek is a rather pleasant suburban creekside walk. We walk up one side of the creek, then a circumnavigation of the Northern Golf Club grounds and then returning on the other side of the creek to the Pascoe Vale hotel . This then should be sufficient walking to justify a lazy lunch !! If post prandial inertia hasn,t set in and the entthususm is still there , the walk can be extended by 2kms along the Moonee Ponds Creek to the Strathmoore Rly St to make 10km and a qualifiying event. Being a Short Walk, the startng time is more genteel than usual. For Public Transport users, the Craigeburn train leaves Flinders St at 9.47, Essendon St at 10.03 and arrives at Pascoe Vale St at 10.08. For drivers there is railway parking at the front of the hotel as well as the hotel car park, It,s standard pub fare in rather pleasant surrounds, ranging from $15 to $18 (Seniors) We meet at the North end of the station, the exit end , at 10.10am. Comfortable shoes, and your usual morning tea. ( if the weather is inclement the Northern golf Club has coffee available to the public). Guaranteed hill free walking !
Cumberland Ruins and Bandicoot Enclosure , Woodlands Historic Park.
This walk continues the series of short walks around Woodlands Historic Park. This walk takes us away from the Moonee Ponds Creek area and into the Back Paddock of Woodlands HP. The area is also now referred to as the Bandicoot Enclosure. The area is undergoing changes to its perimeter this year and walkers will see the new perimeter fencing.
On entering the Back Paddock, the walk soon diverts off the main track and heads south to the Cumberland Homestead Ruins, passing a largish dam on the way. After looking around the ruins, we head north east to the remains of the original Bandicoot enclosure, before leaving the Back Paddock at the exit gate next to the Weeroona Cemetery and making our way back to the Homestead, making a short detour to visit the Greenvale Creek Dam outside the old Hospital Grounds.
Refreshments and toilets will be available at the Homestead.
If the Back Paddock is unexpectedly closed due to " animal management", the walk will be changed with the Chaffey Water Trail walk scheduled for Wednesday 13 November.
The Chaffey Water Trail - Woodlands Historic Park.

This walk looks at at Chaffey's watering system, besides walking along Murrup Gurrong Yan, also known as Spiritual Creek Walk, taking us on a pleasant stroll through Woodlands Historic Park, passing the Parks Victoria Offices and work area, taking us to visit the Twin Dams Area. Returning to the Homestead via The Plantation, we check out the final part of Chaffey's Water Trail before walking back up the Driveway to the finish.

The walk concludes back at Woodlands Park in ample time to enjoy some social time prior to the lunch.
