The first of a series of 4 walks linking Greenborough to the Bay Beaches.  Total distance of about 50kms.

This is another Tri-club walk with Diamond Valley and Koonung.  Starting at Greensborough rail station we’ll walk along the Plenty River and Main Yarra trails to Heidelberg station.  The distance is a 12 kms Easy walk - with some small undulations, and one steeper hill at about the halfway section.  We’ll avoid the main shared paths as much as possible and walk along the tracks close to the riverbanks.  This will maximize the available shade and separate us from the cyclists.  There is a mixture of scattered shade and full sunlight on this walk, with drinking fountains along the way.  However, if the temperature is forecast above 30 degrees in the early part of the day, I’ll cancel the walk and reschedule for cooler months.  Toilets are a bit scarce along the trails, but are at Greensborough, maybe at Yallambie Park (4.5kms) and at lunch.  We may have an early morning tea at Montmorency (1.5km) then Lunch at Warringal Parklands (10.5 kms) – with rest stops in between.

Runners should be ok, but sturdy walking shoes and poles are recommended, as the path can be rugged for a short distance.

Maximum of 8 members per club, and I will adjust the numbers depending on the level of interest.

If driving, I suggest you park at Heidelberg and catch the train to Greensborough.  Parking should be available at the station car park off Yarra street as it will still be the Festive Season off-peak.  We will start walking from Greensborough at 9:00am to avoid the potential heat.
