Ted Errey Circuit Walk

Wed Aug 23rd 2023 10:00:00 -2:00:00

This walk in the Southern section of the Brisbane Ranges has something for everyone.  After a 1km flat walk there is a steep climb on a rocky track to the top of the ridge for about 300m.  Once on top of the ridge the track meanders along until there is a detour to a lookout with views into the valleys of the park.  The track continues along the ridge to another lookout point then descends to a little valley before ascending to the top of the hill.  It then descends to the Stony creek picnic ground.  A short detour will take you to the old Stony Creek Reservoir.  It is then a 3km walk back through the Anakie Gorge to the cars.  As spring is approaching the wildflowers are starting to make a good show.

Columbine Creek Syphons and Sanger

Sat Aug 26th 2023 8:00:00 -2:30:00

Columbine Creek is an area of bushland tucked between Glenuce and Drummond North and sits within the Fryers Ridge Nature Conservation Reserve.  Previoulsy slated for a club walk during COVID times, late winter / early spring is the best time to wonder through this wonderful area of bushland

The walk commences at the intersection of Fryers Ridge Road and Hunter Lane (suitable for conventional vehicles).  It is a mixture of on track and off track walking (gaiters and poles highly recommended).  Along the way we will visit the homes of Charles Sanger's hut, an eccentric character who lived as a hermit in the Fryers and Upper Loddon Forests.  Water races are another feature of this walk, along with the remains of an amazing syphon which was built in the 1930's to move water from Fryerstown into the goldfields along the Loddon.  Off track along Salter's Creek, before making our way back the cars along washing machine gully.

Afternoon tea will be at the Taradale Wine and Food Store

Mundy Gully

Wed Aug 30th 2023

Mundy Gully is just north of Tooborac on the Northern Highway, in a low range of very ancient rock in which much gold was won during the gold rush days.  The poor, rocky soils support a forest of mainly box, stringybark and ironbark trees. The walk features godd digging remains and traces of a water race.  Some off-track walking involved.  Good sightings of orchids are likely if you have a keen eye.  Afternoon tea at Tooboorac Cafe and Post.

Sorry, the event is now full and we could not accept more registration

Trawool Reservoir from above

Sun Sep 3rd 2023 9:30:00 -3:00:00

Trawool Reservoir was built in the 1890's as a water storage dam, for the nearby town of Seymour and for the railway in the Goulburn Valley below it. It is no longer used, but remains as a tranquil location perched on the Northern edge of the Tallartook State Forest, a granite plateau area near Tallarook.

This walk starts from Freeman's Camp, a picnic/camping area in the Tallarook State Forest. From there, we head North, initially level/undulating, then descending steeply to the reservoir. Heading back South from the reservoir we initially follow Falls Creek through delightful mixed forest, then climb back up to plateau level, mostly on the aptly named "Steep Track". (Despite that, the walk is generally flatter than my walk "Trawool Reservoir from below" - but it is longer.)

Just over 16km all up, can be muddy. All on (mostly closed) 4WD tracks.

To get to Freeman's Camp. Take Hume Freeway until beyond Broadford, then look for Ennis Road on the right (just over 5km past the weighbridge near Broadford). Follow Ennis Road (changes its name to Main Rd once in the State Forest, but keep following it) for 12km. Freeman's Rd (signposted) is on the left, Freeman's Camp is near the corner. There is a car-park and toilets there.

Anglesea Perimeter Walk West

Wed Sep 6th 2023

This walk is on the west side of the Anglesea River.  We follow it to the Coogoorah Reserve then head up the hill till we reach Coalmine Road and views down into the closed mine.  From here we head up to the highest point in Anglesea with views down into the town.  We gradually make our way down through the forest on the edge of town to the beach where depending on the tide we walk along and around Point Roadnight or cut it short and follow the road a short distance before following the track up the cliffs with great views of the beaches and cliffs of Anglesea.  It is then downhill to the cars in the carpark .  Poles would be useful  Meet at the carpark opposite the general store about 200m past the roundabout on the left.

This walk starts at Miekles Point Picnic Area in Werribee Gorge State Park (the lower picnic area, on the river) and heads out to The Island, a fairly new addition to the park. We then return to the car-park, partly along a different route. (The walk does not include the section along the river, with the chains.)

Mount Macedon Walking Trail

Sat Sep 16th 2023 9:30:00 -2:30:00

This is a full day walk that takes in two distinct  peaks: Mount Macedon and Camels Hump.  Starting from Douglas Road, we'll follow bitumen and gravel surfaced roads until the start of a 1.7 km steep  section (will get your heart pumping! ) to the summit of Mount Macedon and the Memorial Cross. We will stop here for a well earned morning tea before following the western flank of the mountain past some picnic grounds, the tea room and arrive at the base of Camels Hump. We then branch off to Days Picnic Ground where we will stop for lunch.  After  lunch we head down Zig Zag Track and join  up with Anzac and Mount Macedon roads and return to where we started. There is a cafe nearby for refreshments!  Boots and poles recommended.

Mon Sep 18th 2023 10:00:00 -2:30:00

A city walk starting at a cafe next to Hughsdale Station ("Dose One" cafe, 1 Willesden Rd Hughsdale) and finishing at a cafe just South of East Malvern Station ("Jake and the Beans Talk" cafe, 510 Waverley Rd, Malvern East.)

The walk heads north from Hughsdale and loops around, beyond Ashburton, before circling back to East Malvern. Good walking tracks, nearly all in parkland - Outer Circle Linear Park, Urban Forest Reserve, part of Scotchman Creek Trail and Anniversary Trail, Ferndale Trail, along Gardiners Creek trail on the return to east Malvern. Total distance 14 km, flat.

Walking will start at 10am from the Dose One cafe, get there at 9.30 or thereabouts if you want a pre-walk coffee.

Hughsdale and East Malvern are on different rail lines - all the way on public transport is easest, but if you drive to Hughsdale instead, you need to walk an extra 1km to Murrumbeena Station to get back on the right line.
