Walk
Woodlands Historic Park Wander.
Starting at Woodlands Homestead, the walk takes us to Moonee Ponds Creek near the Park entrance and the Ben Chaffey Water Trail. From there, we follow the creek in a south east direction, checking out the magnificent river red gums along the way. We leave the Creek near where it meets the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and head north to the Parks Victoria
Office and workshops.. From there we wander towards Providence Road before turning into the grounds of the now derelict Greenvale Hospital/Sanatorium.
Leaving the hospital grounds for a while, we explore the area around the nearby Weeroona Cemetery before moving on to the Greenvale Dam at the southern end of the Grounds. This takes us back into the deserted area for a look around the southern section including the water towers where one of the Sanatorium Hospital shelters existed.
Leaving this historic area, we make use of a horse trail alongside the sugar gum plantation to get back to the Parks Victoria Office and then cross country to Woodlands to the finish at the Homestead.
An added bonus could be that the Park may be covered with the purple of Patterson's Curse which is usually out in abundance at this time of year.
Meet at Woodlands Homestead top car park by 9.30 am. The walk involves some easy cross country walking off tracks, so boots are re ommended.
Covid restrictions must be adhered to where applicable and all walkers must be fully vaccinated.

The walk is mostly on suburban paths or cycle tracks and is mainly flat, so runners would be suitable unless it has been raining in the days before the walk. Walking poles are not necessary unless you feel more comfortable using them.

Eastern Ramble 3 - Heathmont to Deep Creek
The third leg of the 8 walks from Dandenong Ranges to Essendon.
Starting from Heathmont station, we’ll walk along a path which skirts around Eastland shopping centre, to join up with the Mullum Mullum creek trail to Deep Creek. The track is a mix of sealed shared paths with several gravel sections. There are several undulations along the route with one short steep climb (including steps) prior to the end of the walk. Runners are suitable for this walk, and poles shouldn’t be necessary. We’ll finish near Beasley’s Nursery at Deep Creek for optional afternoon tea before catching the 906 bus towards the city. I suggest getting off the bus at Lonsdale St and catching a train home from Melbourne Central. We should start walking at about 9:15am and Finish between 2:00 and 2:30pm. Toilets are at Flinders Street (maybe Heathmont Station), morning tea, lunch and at Beasley’s Nursery.
