SUMMARY:Eynesbury Heritage Trail and Forest Loop Walk
DESCRIPTION:A very easy walking path through the grey box and salt bush for
est\, crossing the dry bed of the Coolibah Creek twice. Plenty of birdlife
\, kangaroos and other things to see.
The walk begins and ends from the
designated parking area off Eynesbury Road. This is the only place with a
toilet\, plus it has a small General Store if you need anything.
 The bus
h track is riddled with ant nests and busy curious ants so covered footwea
r is highly recommended. Also\, if the weather is hot\, the flies can be
a big nuisance so bring along your aeroguard or face net. In view of this
we will have a quick morning tea when we arrive and brunch at the end of
the walk at a lovely little shaded park.
 Heritage buildings make for int
eresting places to stop as we loop around the Greybox Forest. Many of thes
e are testament to the well-preserved pastoralist history of the land.
 E
ynesbury Forest\, at 288 hectares\, is one of Victoria’s largest remaini
ng stands of Grey Box\, & the largest one south of the Dividing Range. It
is a reminder of the Grey Box Woodlands that once covered much of this reg
ion\, along with vast areas of rolling grasslands. In springtime the woodl
and comes alive with masses of yellow & gold wattles & bushpeas\, as well
as numerous smaller wildflowers. With over 150 bird species observed so fa
r\, as well as a small ornamental Lake Dal Bon\, rich in wetland birdlife.
A rare opportunity to see woodland bird species. Australia’s rarest wat
er bird\, the Freckled Duck\, is frequently seen on the lake.
